LATO KENTUCKY
BLUEGRASS (Forage Variety)
Developed in northern Europe, Lato
forage Kentucky bluegrass exhibits high bluegrass forage yields, a
medium/early maturity, and good resistance to both leaf spot and
stem rust. Lato tolerates close, frequent grazing with strong
persistence, and it's dense rhyzome structure affords improved
erosion control on sloped pasture areas
In forage trials from Kentucky to the
Canadian Maritime Provinces, Lato has proven to provide excellent
pasture and silage yields outperforming industry standards such as
Troy, Park, and Kenblue. Lato also mixes well with legumes such as
red and white clover and birdsfoot trefoil.
Lato should be
planted in late summer/early fall at 10-14 lbs per acre. To improve
overall pasture density, Lato may also be successfully 'frost
seeded' into existing pastures in very early spring when the soil is
still honeycombed with frost. Lato creates an excellent
coverage for good weed control.
